The top image is a new image by the street artist BÄST based in Brooklyn. They remind me of African tribal masks and costumes, and I think in many ways there are similarities between graffiti and tribal art. I decided it was better to leave some of the wall in the top image because a part of graffiti is the context. I love that splash of white paint on the left side, the red background and the rip – its all part of the process and it creates energy and dynamism. If you are interested in African art I highly recommend the Musée du quai Branly.
